Respite care: substitute care for family caregivers in Geertruidenberg
Respite care means that someone temporarily takes over your caring responsibilities. This gives you as a caregiver a break and time for yourself. This helps to keep your own life in balance and keep up the care for your loved one longer.
Respite care is a form of informal care support. We also call it substitute informal care. By taking time off from informal care tasks, the caregiver can keep his or her own life in better balance and be able to care for someone close to him or her for longer.
If you can, have a conversation with your loved one about respite care. Explain that it is important for you to take a break sometimes and do something for yourself. Also listen to any concerns your loved one may have. The care you provide feels familiar. Your loved one may find it difficult or exciting when someone else takes over the care.
Forms of respite care
Respite care can be provided in several ways:
Day care or day care

Children with a disability, disorder or condition may be eligible for residential care in an institution. One can apply to the municipality for this. - Personal budget (pgb)
This is only possible if there is already a pgb, consult the terms and conditions of the municipality, Health Care Office or insurer beforehand.
